It is possible to surgically transfer your own fat from one part of your body to your face to restore the youthful volume to your cheeks, eyes and around your mouth that you have lost with time.
As we age, our tissues not only sag and droop, they deflate as the subcutaneous fat becomes thinner and less dense. Most patients sense that the skin is just sagging, but also that there is a "deflating" effect. Simply lifting the sagging tissues back into place does not always restore the tissue to a youthful appearance. Often fat transplantation is necessary to restore the fullness and natural contours of youth in addition to lifting the sagging tissues. Facial Lipo-sculpture is the use of fat transfer techniques to inject the patient’s own body fat into the face in a way designed to restore it to its natural contours.
The procedure is a natural alternative to the other volume fillers that we offer in our practice. Many people are attracted to the idea of using their own tissue to achieve great volume results. It can be done in the office under local anesthesia or coordinated with another surgical rejuvenation procedure of your eyes or face under general anesthesia. Fat is harvested from your legs or abdomen, processed, and then placed strategically in areas throughout your face. There will be a healing period that includes bruising. Recovery is about a week or two. Many people are attracted to the advantage that greater volumes of fat can be harvested and it potentially can be long lasting.
