Your Jawline and Neck

The lower part of your face is framed by the border formed by your mandible or jawbone.  A strong, straight jawline adds to the youth and beauty that defines your face.  A weak chin or jawline can detract from the general proportions that bring the remainder of the face in balance.

Patients who are even in their youth may consider adding definition to their chin and jawline to achieve a better balance of beauty.  This can be done in many ways:

Implants:  adding definition with a chin implant or a mandibular implant may be an excellent option for those who want a permanent option that will give them a jawline they never had.  A small chin can make a nose look bigger and an implant is used to correct this.  A narrow face is also improved with a mandible implant.  This is a short surgical procedure with minimal downtime.

Fillers:  definition can also be performed in the office with a short filler procedure.  Strategic placement of fillers along the jawline can add real enhancement to this area.  These temporary options are very safe and can go a long way!

The soft tissues of the jawline also have a profound affect on these areas and we offer many treatments to address this.  The cheeks may sag or be fatty.  At any point in time, we may have more unwanted volume in the lower face in the form of fatty tissue and this needs to be removed or repositioned.  In addition, as time goes on, there is increasing laxity of the facial tissues and there will be increasing jowls and sagginess in the neck.  We have many options for lifting these tissues into a more youthful position.

Correcting the shortcomings of your lower face should be individualized, and we have a multitude of options that may be considered:

Ultherapy: a single non-invasive treatment with no downtime and no needles that uses ultrasound to lift and tighten the tissues around the jawline and neck.  Great for people with mild to moderate laxity who either don't need or don't want a facelift.

Liposuction: selective removal of the fatty tissues under the chin and jawline help give it definition.  This can be an excellent complement to another procedure such as an implant or facelift.

Facelifting techniques: A procedure that is specifically suited to your needs can be designed to correct the laxity of tissues in your face.  The Weekend Facelift can correct some moderate laxity in the cheeks and jawline.  The Necklift can correct sagginess in the neck.  A full facelift is appropriate for more severe levels of laxity and can address all areas.

We can help you consider the issues of downtime, recovery and cost that will also determine what choice suits you best.

A consult with Dr. Cote or Dr. Picerno can help you figure out what would be the best option for your needs!
