How a Revision Rhinoplasty can Improve Poor Results

So, you’ve been unhappy with the appearance of your nose for a while now and have finally chosen to undergo nose surgery. You take the leap, go through recovery, only to discover that your results aren’t exactly what you wanted. While this may be discouraging, don’t give up yet! Revision rhinoplasty procedures can help to improve poor results that you received from previous nose surgery.

Why Would Someone Need a Rhinoplasty Revision?

Sometimes, individuals will undergo rhinoplasty surgery with surgeons who are not board-certified or not skilled enough to correctly perform the rhinoplasty procedure. This can lead to unsatisfactory results and complications that can hinder the outcome of your rhinoplasty procedure.

Understanding Revision Rhinoplasty

Revision rhinoplasty is nose surgery done to correct problems from a previous rhinoplasty. It is considered one of the hardest procedures among other cosmetic surgeries, so it is important that you seek out a board-certified and experienced surgeon such as Dr. Cote, who specializes in revision rhinoplasty.

During the procedure, any damaged nasal cartilage must be virtually rebuilt from scratch to create a new nasal skeleton. This is done using graft material or cartilage, which is harvested from either the nasal septum, the ear, or the rib.

In cases where the nasal damage is too severe for cartilage to be taken from these areas, synthetic tissue may be used, or a combination of natural and synthetic cartilage may be used.

The main goal of revision rhinoplasty is restoring the nose to a desirable shape and making efforts to avoid another surgery.

What is Recovery Like?

The recovery period for your revision rhinoplasty will be very similar to that of your original rhinoplasty. However, there may be more bandaging or splints used to keep the nose in place, and these bandages may need to be worn for a longer time. However, if you follow Dr. Cote’s specific post-op instructions, you should see the beautiful results that you aimed to see the first time around!
