As we age, lines and wrinkles around our nose and mouth are often the first to form. As skin loses elasticity with age, deepened lines, deep wrinkles, and facial wrinkles such as smile lines and nasolabial folds become more prominent. Patients who wish to eliminate these lines without common invasive surgery can often benefit from Restylane® Defyne, a hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is part of a family of dermal fillers designed to address these concerns, to rejuvenate their facial appearance. An experienced aesthetic injector can customize your treatment to achieve natural-looking results while maintaining natural movement and facial expressions.

What is Restylane® Defyne?

Restylane® Defyne is a hyaluronic acid filler and a hyaluronic acid dermal filler, created to soften the appearance of moderate to severe nasolabial folds and marionette lines. It is part of the Restylane® family of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Created with XpresHAn technology, Restylane® Defyne is designed to move with the skin so patients can retain the ability to make natural-looking facial expressions and movements. This filler is formulated with more cross-linking than Restylane® Refyne, providing greater support for deep wrinkles and folds with slightly less flexibility.

Restylane® Defyne also contains a small amount of lidocaine, a local anesthetic included to minimize pain and enhance patient comfort during Restylane Defyne injections. Pain can be further minimized with a topical anesthetic if needed.

Non-surgical treatments can take anywhere from 20-40 minutes to complete, depending on the size of the treatment area. An aesthetic injector will perform the procedure, carefully placing the injections in the appropriate treated areas such as nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and smile lines.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Restylane® Defyne is FDA-approved for use in adults ages 21 and older. Many candidates are often seeking correction of deepened lines, deep wrinkles, and facial wrinkles that develop as skin loses elasticity. Individuals who wish to smooth their facial lines and wrinkles can often benefit from this filler.

Dermal fillers like Restylane® Defyne offer a non-surgical solution for these concerns. Patients who wish to eliminate their marionette lines and nasolabial folds without undergoing surgery often choose to undergo Defyne treatments. It is important to consult with an experienced aesthetic injector to determine the best treatment plan for your needs.

Restylane® Defyne Results

The most commonly observed side effects include swelling, redness, pain, bruising, headache, tenderness, lump formation, and itching at the injection site. These side effects are typically mild in severity and resolve in less than 7 days in the nasolabial folds and less than 14 days in the lips.

Temporary lumps may occur in the treated areas and can often resolve with gentle massage as directed by your provider.

Patients are advised to avoid massaging or pressing on the treated areas for 24 to 48 hours, and to minimize strenuous exercise and exposure to sun or heat for 24 hours following treatment. Results are generally visible immediately, with optimal results after 2 weeks. Restylane® Defyne can last up to 12 months after treatment, and in some cases, results can last up to 12-18 months. Symptoms of swelling and redness in the treated areas typically resolve in about 7 days after treatment.
