What is Dysport®?

Dysport® is an FDA-approved prescription medicine primarily used to smooth frown lines (lines between the brows) and other facial wrinkles and fine lines. Like Botox, Dysport contains botulinum toxin type A, a neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes specific facial muscles, preventing them from contracting. These repeated muscle contractions are what cause dynamic lines and wrinkles to form, causing many patients to appear tired, angry, or sad. 

While Dysport can be used to treat many signs of aging, it is most commonly used to treat moderate to severe frown lines (glabellar lines), forehead lines, and crow’s feet.

Who is a Candidate for Dysport?

Adults who are seeking to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles can often benefit from Dysport injections. Ideal candidates are those in overall good health who have noticeable facial wrinkles caused by repeated facial movements. Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an allergy to cow’s milk protein, or have had an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients in Dysport are not good candidates. What is Dysport Treatment Like?

Dysport treatment is a relatively quick procedure. To begin, the injection site will be cleansed. While not required, a topical numbing cream may be applied to the treatment area if desired to ensure your comfort. Dysport will then be injected into multiple targeted areas using a fine needle. This entire process usually takes about 15-20 minutes to complete.

Following treatment, patients may experience temporary and mild swelling and redness at the injection site. There is no downtime, though we do recommend avoiding strenuous activities, hot environments (such as saunas), and alcohol consumption for 24 hours after treatment for best results. 

Most patients can begin to see visible results within 2-3 days, with full effects appearing within a week. Effects can last about 3-4 months before a touch-up treatment is needed.
