Steps to Take Before a Rhinoplasty

So, you have been unhappy with the appearance of your nose for some time now, and you are finally at the point of doing something about it. There are many things to take into account when considering a surgical procedure, such as a rhinoplasty.

Step 1: Determine Why You Want a Rhinoplasty

While you have probably already given some thought as to what you would like to change about your nose, now is a great time to narrow down what exactly you would like to alter. Grab a pen and paper and sit in front of a mirror. Then, examine your nose and write down exactly what you would like to change. Perhaps you would like to alter the nasal bridge, or reduce the width of your nose. Or maybe you would like to reduce the size of the nostrils, or correct a crooked nose. Clearly determining what you would like to change will make the rest of the rhinoplasty process much easier.

Step 2: Do Your Homework

Take the time to do some research on the rhinoplasty procedure, what to expect, and what kind of downtime you’re looking at. When it comes to rhinoplasty, there are two main techniques used: the closed approach and the open approach. The open approach entails a small incision being made on the columella, or the area of tissue that separates the nostrils. Through this incision, internal nasal structures can be altered. The closed approach entails all incisions being made inside the nose, so no visible scarring is left. The approach that is right for you can be determined during your rhinoplasty consultation.

Step 3: Choose a Board-Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon

When choosing to undergo any type of plastic surgery procedure, be sure to schedule a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon who specializes in rhinoplasty procedures, such as Dr. Cote. Also, be sure that the surgeon you choose has ample experience performing rhinoplasties, and also ask to view before and after pictures of his past work.
